Immune Genes in Fungi
Project One
The investigation of the genetic determinants of allorecognition (conspecific non-self recognition) in filamentous fungi has lead to the discovery of molecular players and pathways sharing evolutionary link with immune genes in distant taxa. Nevertheless, it is yet unclear how extensive such parallels might be and how would the ‘gene network topology’ of a fungal immune system look like? To answer such questions, we are pursuing the identification and characterization of novel immune-related genes, which might be involved in discrimination against conspecific non-self or generally mediating other fungal biotic interactions (xenorecognition), including organismal defense.
